Burning Man 2006
Camp plans for 2006
January, 2006
- Plans are already underway for Burning Man 2006. There is
discussion of joining with two other camps to create a village.
This is not a sure thing yet but it is an ever-growing
possibility. We may join with
MAPS camp and COSM
camp to form "Entheon Village."
MAPS stands
for the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies,
and COSM stands for the
Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. MAPS has been at Burning Man for
several years. They operate "Sanctuary,"
a tent next to the medical tent that exists to help people who
are having psychedelic emergencies. COSM is a large art project
by Alex and Allyson Grey.
The Temple of Virtual Wisdom gods are excited.
June 2006 -
Here is some information for camp members.
camp layout - This layout was created for space
allocation. The actual layout will probably change when we get
to the playa. I just wanted to make sure we save enough room for
everyone and their stuff.
Equipment List - this is a list of suggested personal and
group equipment. It is a useful guide to packing for Burning
Man.
August 2006 -
We have built a giant dome to house the Chapel of Sacred
mirrors. See photos of the process here.
Our camp will be located near 4:00 on Anxious street. Come by.
Visit with us. Try out the Danger Couch and All-Terrain Bowling.
Fun Fun Fun!
The TOASTER
We built a fire
sculpture called "The Toaster" for the Arizona Burning Man
community to be used at Toast and other community events. It was
built in a series of weekends at Royce Carlson's Cosmic Steel
welding shop/sculpture studio by many Arizona burners. Below is
a description of each of the work parties and links to photos of
the construction process.
January 28, 2006
- The first fabrication party at Cosmic Steel was a lot of
fun and we got a lot done on the fire sculpture. We started at
about 10 AM and, by 3 PM, we had constructed the basic armatures
for the three fire towers that make up the sculpture. For the
rest of the afternoon and evening we had a party with some fire,
food, drink, music and fun. It was a small and energetic group -
a perfect way to start the project. Thanks to Ty, Mitch, Blaze,
Pam, and Shebang for your enthusiasm and hard work!
See some
photos here.
February 18, 2006
- The second work party had a lot of people show up to help and
we got more done than we had planned. Once again we finished the
afternoon with a party with even more food, fire and fun than
the first party. Thanks to EVERYONE who came. This is
truly a collaborative project. See
photos.
March 18, 2006
- At the third work party we almost finished skinning the tower
sections and began bending and welding some of the trim. It was
cold and windy but the AZburners persevered.
See photos.
April 22, 2006
- This was the final work party and the sculpture was completed
enough to be set up for a test firing. It went very well and the
new sculpture promises to be a great heater.
