The Center Camp contained a coffee bar that sold tea, lemonade, coffee and hot chocolate. The proceeds went to charity. The elaborate bar, itself, was designed and built by David Best in 2000 out of the left over wooden parts from a manufacturing process.

This year Best concentrated his attention on building one of the most spectacular. and moving, art installations on the playa - the Mausoleum (below). It was built out of the same material.

There were many features of Black Rock City that mimicked or parodied the kinds of things you would find in any town. At right the Black Rock Bookmobile makes its rounds.
Below is the Black Rock City Post Office and PedEx. Mail could be delivered from camp to camp. They even had stamps!

At left, Earl and Paul work to set up a 32' diameter geodesic dome for Recharge Camp. The dome structure is assembled and all that's left is to drape a large parachute over the top. Earl modified the basic geodesic design to allow for a larger entry so you don't have to crouch to pass through. This is the 4th and 5th visits to Burning Man for the members of Recharge Camp.

A guy painted like a zebra visits our theme camp. Body paint is one of the art forms in great supply at Burning Man. People also coat their naked bodies with glitter and other adornments.

A merely naked, unpainted individual does not attract much attention. The decorated people are way more interesting. With temperatures over 100 degrees in the afternoons, being naked is one of the very few ways to keep cool.

Water trucks sprayed the streets of Black Rock City daily in an attempt to keep the dust down. Each day, participants threw off their clothes and ran to get in the spray from the water trucks. For many, these were the only showers they got for the week.
