All of the
dismantled water pipes in sectors five to eight are brought here to the
Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam’s temporary depot for later transport back to
base.
|
Sandbags, which were filled up and placed here to create structure two months ago, are now being dug up and emptied. Bags are folded up and the sand is sprinkled about. Women do most of this work. |

| Now that the pilgrims have gone and the land empty, the farmers are beginning to appear. Here along newly dug beds, cucumber and watermelon saplings are being planted. In a few months and before the Ganga rises again, this place will be green having delivered a whole harvest. |
At the Sangam, the water level
is really low and the pilgrims too come in by the trickle. |

4.15pm. In the waters at the Sangam. A few pilgrims and some boats. With or without people, this place emanates a vibration beyond description. |
The waterline has moved and so the sandbags have got to start migrating too. Meanwhile the tractor is evening out the sand in preparation for Maha Shivratri on 21st February. |
